– Teresa Warren

“I have been working with Matt on a house renovation project for about a year now. He is an extremely professional Architect and also very approachable and easy to talk to. He takes time to get to know you and what you really want from a project and more importantly what you don’t want ! He helped me at every stage and walked me through every planning application and all the comprehensive drawings. He is fantastic at communicating with contractors and has incredible attention to detail. By the time the build begins everyone knows what is expected of them and the build moves along smoothly. He is great at communicating and updating you about the project at every stage. You are left feeling confident with the decisions you have made. I am so grateful to him for his support.”

– M Jarvis, Kent

“I started working with Matt Weyham on my Grade II listed project 2 years ago. This has been challenging and stressful throughout but Matt not only has done an amazing job he has also been a great support at the same time, taking phone calls out of hours and talking the drawings through with me at any time. Regarding planning I cannot fault Matt as everything we have submitted so far has been successful. He has also worked seamlessly with all the other consultants, especially the conservation officer, using his knowledge and expertise in Grade II listed buildings to get a positive result.

I would recommend Matt Weyham to anyone who needed an architect that specialise in Grade II listed buildings or any other historic buildings in and around London.

Thanks.”

– Nathan

“Matt Weyham of MEW Architects was highly recommended to us by our contractor. We needed drawings for a complete home renovation including a single storey side extension, loft conversion and a rear extension. Right from the outset Matt’s outstanding professionalism, knowledge, compassion and integrity shown through.

He was not phased about coming into the project at such a late stage. Matt recognised the pressure I was under to complete our home by a certain date and despite being extremely busy, his team worked around the clock to deliver outstanding and thorough drawings for us in record time. The drawings we received offered us creative solutions and ideas that we had thought were unachievable in our home! Matt also ensured that he found cost-effective ways to ensure that we would be able to stay within our budget for our build.

Matt is not only exceptionally qualified as an architect, he is also extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the planning application process and the building trade. As such, he was able to provide us with advice, ideas and suggestions that were invaluable. He was knowledgeable about our permitted development rights so in addition to submitting a full planning application, he was able to advice us and secure a certificate of lawfulness for aspects of our build.

In addition, Matt’s communication with us throughout the project was excellent. He was approachable and understanding and made sure he took the time to answer all our queries as efficiently as possible. He was diligent and attentive to the things that were critical to us for our home. I can truly say that Matt goes above and beyond in his work and I have at times been moved to tears by his compassion, understanding, support and positive outlook!

If you are looking for an outstanding architect who operates with extreme professionalism, transparency and integrity you will find none better than Matt Weyham. His extra-mile approach makes you feel like you are working with a family member who you can trust implicitly. I would highly recommend Matt as an architect and I see it as an absolute privilege to continue to work with him in all our future projects!”

– Amma McKenzie

“Matt helped us design and obtain planning permission for the redevelopment of our swimming pool area. The site is within the curtilage of a listed building, and the project required a considerable degree of care and skill. Matt was responsive, thorough and professional throughout, and came up with a very attractive scheme that was approved first time. Construction is expected to start in the Autumn and we are very excited about seeing the project take shape.”
– Hereward Phillpot

“Matt has advised me on several residential projects. He has an excellent sense of design and has a keen eye for detail. A particular strength is his focus on providing accurate plan and design to meet all budgets. He is also a great problem-solver and offers sensible and practical solutions, including whenever unexpected challenges emerge. Matt has also built up a large list of reputable contacts and suppliers in the building trade – and only uses or recommends suppliers he rates. Good communication skills is another great asset. Matt conveys his ideas, thoughts, and plans clearly – both to clients and contractors. He is also a great listener and collaborator. Finally, Matt has fantastic technical ability.”

“Matt worked with us on a project that involved drawing up plans for a garage to playroom conversion plus knocking down a wall between our kitchen and dining room. He was an absolute pleasure to deal with and he and his partner put the plans and measurements together in an extremely efficient and timely fashion. We would not hesitate to work with him again should we have another project in the future.”
– Mrs Rugg, Sussex

“Matt is a consulting architect whose actions speak louder than his words. It was a pleasure working with him in creating The Burlington Danes Academy school build. He was as sensitive to our needs running a school in the midst of a major build as he was to the needs of our Art Deco building. Matt listens and responds and sometimes tells you things you don’t want to know – all great attributes in an architect running a complex project within tight margins and impossible timescales.”

“I wish to share the wonderful experience we had with Matt. We engaged Matt to help us renovate our house. Matt helped us clearly understand all the moving parts in such a project and guided us very efficiently. Matt’s experience meant he was able to provide great ideas & innovations based on the themes and ‘feel’ we had for the house and his attention to detail shows in the result. Whilst he wasn’t involved in parts of the project, he always made sure to check in and offer up advice to ensure things stayed on track. Overall, we were very happy with Matt’s service, we would wholeheartedly recommend him.”

– Mr Glover, Twickenham

“We used Matt’s services for an internal redesign and ground floor extension to our Edwardian terraced house in London during 2018. Matt has a personable and considerate approach, listening to our needs and suggesting ideas for the overall design. “Matt and Tom have been very thorough, approachable and considerate throughout the planning phase of renovations to our family home in Crystal Palace. He has been a great appointment and we would not hesitate to recommend his calming approach to anyone interested in undertaking a building project.”

– Mr Ellison, Crystal Palace

“Matt is a natural relationship builder who is client-centric and conscientious about delivering a great experience from design through to execution. He is great at juggling the priorities of the practice and making time to build the relationships that will sustain future growth both within the organisation and with external contacts. And Matt is a thoroughly pleasant person to collaborate with, confident but open to the possibilities.”

– Tracey, London

“Matt is probably one of the most reliable and organised people I know. You can set your watch by his reliability. I have no reservations in recommending him and would be pleased to have him working on any construction project, safe in the knowledge that what he sets out to do will be done. He is also a great people person with articulate communication skills.”

– Mr Eggar, Somerset

“I have no hesitation in recommending Matt Weyham, we are very pleased with the work he has carried out for us. Matt came up with an imaginative interpretation of our brief and took it through the pre planning process with our local council. When they requested changes he worked hard to incorporate them into the design. He has helped us with a lot of advice along the way and is always happy to discuss different aspects of the project.”

– Mrs Edwards, Worcester

“I am very pleased to provide a reference for the above gentleman. Mr Weyham was appointed by my architect, Osel Architecture Limited, in relation to the construction of a new four bedroom, four bathroom detached house in Gerrards Cross, for my wife and myself. His brief was to deal with the Design, Planning and Building regulations as well as Tender and Contract administration. His scope of work also included interior design and landscaping. Throughout the contract, I found Mr Weyham to be very conscientious and helpful and he always made himself available to discuss or deal with problems even outside office hours. His personal involvement was much appreciated by my wife and myself and helped overcome our anxieties and concerns during the construction period. His working relationship with the contractors on site was fair but firm which assisted with resolving any problems encountered and he also was of considerable help in completing the project successfully in accordance with the terms of the contract. I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Weyham.”

– Clients in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire

“I have known Matt Weyham for the past eleven years and for seven of those years as Headmaster of an Independent School, where he was commissioned as the architect to conceive some creative yet pragmatic designs to support the overall strategy for the School. He achieved this most successfully and his concepts and the resultant buildings will endure for many years to come. He is a modest, understated yet thoughtful person, who is a highly accomplished and consummate professional. As an architect he gains the complete trust and confidence of those he is working with. He achieves this through an unusual level of empathy with what the subject is seeking to achieve. This blend of professional excellence and thoughtful approach set him apart as an architect of significant stature. His achievements are testament to his skill, experience and knowledge. His attention to detail in the context of the wider scheme was a hallmark of his work, the ability to create atmosphere in his designs, but such that they serve the practical purpose for which they were intended. His persistence and dedication were equal to his professional skill and reflected in the lengths he would go to in order to achieve excellence to the complete satisfaction of all. I have no hesitation in commending him without reservation as an architect of exceptional ability and vision.”

– Mr Haddock, Surrey

“Matt came highly recommended and I in turn have no hesitation in providing a well-deserved reference.
The project (for my Edwardian terraced house in Tooting, SW17) was for the re-shaping and re-structuring of a kitchen space into which a new kitchen (provided separately by a kitchen design company) was fitted. The major challenge was to change the level of the kitchen floor which in turn necessitated lifting the external door to the back garden requiring assorted extra structural supports. To give an idea of the project size, the cost for the structural and building works came in at about £20,000 (and the new kitchen fittings etc about the same again.) The project was in the preparation and design phase from late 2015 to mid-2016, with construction and fitting work from late 2016 into the opening weeks of 2017. Matt was appointed to conduct preliminary surveys, draw up a scheme design, prepare construction drawings and a detailed schedule of works, and issue a tender pack. I found Matt’s ideas to optimise the possibilities invaluable (e.g. to add extra light via an additional window to supplement the internal lighting scheme which he drew up) while remaining sensitive to client views. Equally the hand-holding advice on the forms of contracts, budgetary implications, sourcing of materials (tiles, ironmongery) and project management issues was first rate. And most importantly Matt had the contacts (structural engineers, builders to approach to tender, and building control agencies) to ensure smooth progress and client peace of mind.”

– Mr Shaw, Tooting

“Some friends recommended Matt to us and we contacted him about an extension to our Edwardian house a couple of years ago. We wanted an extension into the side return area to the side and rear of our property, involving knocking through two existing walls and creating a new ‘garden room’ and kitchen all-through. Matt proved to be an excellent professional to work with. In full discussion with us he developed initial draft plans full of great ideas. This gave us a basis for further discussion and after three or four meetings with us he finalised detailed, comprehensive and sound architectural drawings. Matt’s work with us did not end there. Apart from producing a first rate design with all the required professional structural and material detail, he also helped us through the submission for planning permission from the Local Authority (Bromley). Once that approval had been granted(first time through), Matt then took full part in helping us through tendering for potential builders and, at the decision stage, met with us and the builder who became our final choice to carry out the work to go through the proposal the building company had submitted. Throughout the building project Matt continued to offer advice and comment, and on numerous occasions went well beyond his technical responsibility to us by chasing up other involved professionals to help us move forward, such as building control and structural engineers. Our view after working with Matt is one of a very committed and professional architect with a keen sense of working collaboratively and informatively with clients to achieve the outcome they want. He is not afraid to raise concerns or suggest alternatives from his own design and architectural experience. But neither is he over-rigid and, in our experience, worked well with our builders to agree workable solutions to some of the challenges that inevitably arise during any project. Although our project was relatively small compared to some of the much larger corporate projects Matt is involved with through his company, we felt he nevertheless gave us the same level of attention to detail that larger concerns would command. We very much appreciated this approach and we would highly recommend Matt Weyham as an architect for you to consider.”
